Elizabeth Barnett

My name is Liz Barnett and I am from Coralville, Iowa. I am a senior pursuing my B.S in Public Health with a minor in Spanish.  I am working towards my goals of obtaining an MPH after graduation and finding a way to improve the lives of others through my work. Studying public health has helped me to recognize my passion for patient advocacy as well as fighting for access to quality health care for all. On campus, I am currently the Co-President of the Student Health Advisory Committee, Recruitment Advisor of my honor fraternity Phi Sigma Pi, a research assistant Project CRATERS, and am a Student Ambassador to the College of Public Health. In my time spent outside of school, I work as a student research assistant for ICTS at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where I assist research coordinators on clinical trials. I have a deep appreciation for public health and am looking forward to my future in the field!

Isabella "Bella" Jimenez Rodriguez

I am a sophomore majoring in neuroscience, biochemistry, and molecular biology on the pre-med track. I am also pursuing a certificate in clinical and translational science. I joined this project as a high schooler as part of the teen working group and began working as a research assistant once accepted to UI. Outside of my involvement with the College of Public Health, I work as a patient care technician and a phlebotomist at the clinical research unit at UIHC.  I am also a research assistant at the Wessel cognitive neuroscience lab, and volunteer at the Free Clinic as a Spanish interpreter. I hope to pursue an M.D./Ph.D. once I finish my undergraduate degree and complete my residency in neurology. I have an immense passion for research and helping people in my community and see public health as a relevant perspective to bridge the socioeconomic gaps that exist within the medical world.
